Analysis and opinion of “Story of Stuff”

The cycle of the global economy is a great activity that involves all the inhabitants of the planet. It affects few for good and for evil most by various injuries associated with this activity. Corporations are larger than many economies in governments and governments are more available to corporation’s people. For this reason large corporations can make practicing what they want without any fear of having repercussions.

The first stage of the economy are natural resources and we are running out of resources because these limited natural resources. The most used are non-renewable resources and industries also have no interest in the environment. On the contrary just looking as reduce costs and sell more. But much of the blame is not on corporations or industries. That guilt begins with each of the individuals in society. We're not just using a lot but we use more than we need.

US used more than 30% of the planet's resources because it has become consumerist system. The main feature that are known to North American citizens is that they are very consumerist and that defines them to the world. But this consumer system has spread too many other regions and has become a system of normal life for the vast majority of people worldwide. And this consumer system brings great consequences for the planet and life on it. For the same reason of having low production costs, industrial production processes are extremely negative for the ecology.

Industrial production uses toxic chemicals and produces toxic things. This becomes a circle again and again turns producing increasingly worse. People are forced to look for work where there is availability and for that reason has to work in hazardous environments for health. Thus not only the products are harmful to health but also those who work producing them see negative effects in the short and long term. The amount is huge and the quality is low, in addition to this system is the main contributor to pollution.

Prices are low by the need to sell more, to seek lower prices that production and manufacturing exploiting people and resources. 99% of the things we buy is trash in a period not exceeding 6 months. Things are designed to be obsolete as quickly as possible and become garbage is disposed and buy again. But things may not be obsolete or damaged fast enough to you to lose faith in the product, what is done is to convince the person that needs change but works perfectly. To do this change the design and add things to the same product.

The media and advertising plays a very important role. They produce attractive advertising that makes people believe that you need something not. The ads are attractive to the eye and know how to reach the subconscious and manipulate the masses. The result is that it produces more garbage than twice thirty years. The pollution produced waste is the result of the toxic products used in production. All this builds up and does not have a proper destruction.

Recycling is an excellent choice to reduce pollution but not enough. It is necessary for people to come together and generate a change in lifestyle. Sustainability, equity and not produce waste, renewable energy. Those are the ones that created this consumer lifestyle so we can create something new to better results. Thus helping the plant and ourselves. Since we only have a home and have to do the best to keep it.

Can one person make a difference?

The Earth is a big place with a large population, there are many people that conform a society and many people we know in our lives. For individual perception, the number of human beings who interact daily, is minimal compared with reality. Can one of those people present, be or do something different from the common and ordinary? Big changes start small individual acts that are imperceptible at first. We can compare it to a snow avalanche begins a little and grows to change the relief of a landscape, even permanently.

Always when analyzing human behavior is necessary to take into account two perspectives, history and current reality. Derived from this analysis it is possible to forecast for the near future, or at least a critical and sustained opinion. What can be said about the history that exists with respect to individuals who have caused a change and left a mark? Knowledge of the general culture, can we just mention prominent names to give an answer to that question. People like Marie Curie, Mother Teresa of Calcutta, Albert Einstein, Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi, among others. All these people contributed a bit to the history of humanity, generating a positive difference.

In the historical section, it should be noted that there are also people whose negative influence, generated an indelible mark in the memory of mankind. Although it is important that any interpretation of right or wrong is not right for everyone, because the reality and morality of an individual varies with his personality, training, history, preferences and needs. Prominent figures such as Genghis Khan, Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Osama Bin Laden, among others. These characters, noted for making a difference in an unusual way that humans considered correct, but still accounted for his influence and his ideas change in humanity and contribute to society.

At present there are also people with small acts have made significant changes in various areas and subjects. Every day people around us make great contributions to society, from a scientist who brings a new discovery to the school teacher who teaches children values that will be the future of humanity. A president creates changes in a country, an athlete with their individual achievements, raises the fallen spirit of a nation and encourages him to continue. This time, is full of individual acts that make the difference. Thanks to the globalization of communication, it is now easier to be aware of these small events and that these generate an effect on people.

However, being aware that the answer to the first question is yes, without question, another question arises: are we willing to make a difference too? In the field where it is, we have infinite possibilities to effect change and influence the lives of people who have closer. If this determination continues and we have innovative ideas and proper motivation, the scope of our actions can be even more extensive than we thought. In conclusion, all is in the way we want to be remembered and make a difference depends on ourselves.
